Reaching Ambleside is actually very easy. You can take the train to Windermere station and then hop on one of the numerous buses to the town. It will take you about 15 min to arrive to Ambleside by bus from Windermere. You can travel with either 555 or 599 in the Grasmere direction. They are usually very regular, every 20 min in summer.
